“THE CALIFORNIA LEGISLATURE TACKLES THE HOUSING CRISIS:  A REPORT FROM THE TRENCHES”

Session 53

10:00AM – 11:00AM
CLE:  1.0 Hour

Panel: Dolores Dalton and Eric Ramakrishnan

In the last three years, the California Legislature has passed dozens of bills designed to address the state’s brutal housing crisis. Among other things, the new laws are intended to dramatically decrease the ability of cities and counties to deny or reduce the density of housing development projects throughout the state, and to streamline and speed up housing production. This panel will highlight and explain the most important changes in housing legislation in recent years. The panelists will also report on the practical effects of the new legislation, from the standpoint of local government and affordable housing practitioners.
