Affordable housing development and financing is complex, requiring navigation of the local jurisdiction planning process and then juggling the documentation of financing. This Institute will look at all stages of development, from the entitlement process through to financing and closing. Attendees will learn practical strategies to navigate the entitlement process, including how to leverage state laws to support project approval; understanding of loan documents including negotiating strategies; title issues typical to housing projects; and how to close the deal.

AB 2162 (Chiu/Daly) allows developers to receive by-right expedited approval of affordable housing developments that include supportive housing, with the goal of transforming the siting of supportive housing statewide. This workshop will offer details on the legislation and how cities and counties will implement. Presenters will engage the audience in discussion around challenges with implementation and next steps in scaling up supportive housing production.
