Transactional Associate

TRANSACTIONAL ASSOCIATE
GOLDFARB & LIPMAN

Goldfarb & Lipman LLP combines the experience and skill of more than thirty lawyers, with a practice emphasizing real estate, land use, affordable housing, municipal, and community and economic development law.

We seek a real estate transactional associate with at least one year of experience related to the representation of nonprofit and for profit entities, or public agencies, in the areas of affordable housing, community and economic development, and related fields. We welcome candidates with experience related to real estate acquisition and disposition, financing, ownership structuring and taxation, relevant government funding or subsidy programs, rental housing or affordable housing program operations, and regulatory and other legal compliance. We require active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California.

We use a hybrid approach to work location, with at least two-days in-office preferred. We seek candidates for a position in the Oakland office. Salary will range from $138,030 to $167,499 dependent on experience.

Accounting Manager

Under the general direction of the Managing Director, the Accounting Manager is responsible for all areas relating to accounting and financial reporting, and for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. This is a supervisory position and is FLSA exempt. The Accounting Manager manages tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, payroll, accounts payable, taxes, and the support of budget and forecast activities. This position is required to be in the Oakland Office 4-5 days per week as needed.

Role Description

  • Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting group to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner;
  • Manage accounting staff, which includes but is not limited to working with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitoring each direct report’s professional development;
  • Supervise employees effectively to ensure adherence to appropriate financial processes;
  • Oversee the accounting group’s workflow and ensure that it meets deadlines;
  • Manage daily, monthly, and year end accounting processes including accounts payable, cash receipts, general ledger, payroll, cash forecasting, balance sheet reconciliations, annual audits, etc.;
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of financial results;
  • Manage the daily and monthly banking requirements including all bank account reconciliations;
  • Ensure the accurate and timely processing of positive pay transactions and all cash activity;
  • Monitor and analyze accounting data and produce financial reports for managerial staff while recommending further courses of action;
  • Communicate effectively at all levels within the firm to educate and guide with respect to accounting practices and procedures;
  • Improve accounting systems and procedures and initiate corrective actions;
  • Establish and maintain fiscal files and records to document transactions;
  • Establish and enforce a documented system of accounting methods, policies, and principles;
  • Keep up to date with relevant federal and state regulations changes and recommend updates to firm policies, and procedures;
  • Maintain appropriate level of confidentiality at all times;
  • Provide excellent customer support;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required , CPA or MBA is desirable;
  • A minimum of five years of experience in accounting, with three or more years acting in a supervisory or management capacity;
  • Prior law firm experience desired;
  • Strong knowledge of financial statement preparation and analysis;
  •  Solid understanding of financial and accounting principles and standards, laws, and regulations;
  • Proficient use of financial software;
  • Advanced Excel skills, including the ability to work with lookups and pivot tables;
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite 365;
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills;
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial data
  •  Strong management and leadership skills with the ability to effectively and efficiently supervise team members’ work;
  • Self-motivated to learn new concepts and participate in new projects;
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills;
  • Attention to efficiency, timeliness, and productivity;
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment;
  • Ability work in-office 4-5 days per week as needed
  • Ability and judgment to maintain appropriate confidentiality at all times; and
  • Ability to work well under pressure and multi-task in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to adapt readily to change;
  • Ability to work cordially, cooperatively and productively with all employees; and
  • Ability to maintain composure and work efficiently and accurately during highly stressful circumstances.

The salary range for this position is $135,000 to $155,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
